DEWALT
DEWALT 12 Gallon Poly Wet/Dry Vac, 5.5 HP Shop Vacuum Wet Vacuum Cleaner for Workshop, Jobsite, Commericial Area, Large Pick-Up Capacity, Yellow,DXV12P
Best for
Best for heavy-duty workshop, garage, or jobsite cleanups where raw power and quiet running matter more than nimble accessories, but skip it if you need a hose that bends easily around cabinets or you plan to climb stairs.
What buyers say
This DEWALT shop vac cleans like a beast, with owners reporting it sucks up everything from concrete dust and flood water to stubborn pet hair without losing power. The trade-off is that the included hose and attachments feel cheap and stiff, making it awkward to use in tight spots, so budget for an upgraded hose if you plan to use it a lot.
Loved by buyers
- •Powerful suction makes fast work of heavy debris, from wet leaves to construction rubble.
- •It runs noticeably quieter than most vacuums in its class, thanks to a motor that doesn’t scream and a muffler that actually helps.
- •The large 12-gallon tank means fewer stops to empty, a big plus on long cleanup days.
Buyer concerns
- •The hose is too short and rigid, and the attachments don’t swivel, so you end up wrestling with them instead of focusing on the mess.
- •For what DEWALT charges, the plastic tools and hose feel like an afterthought, especially the flimsy connection points that stick or come apart during use.
- •The disposable bag can tunnel a hole in the middle when sucking up light debris like dry leaves, wasting a lot of capacity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How loud is it compared to other shop vacs?+
Owners say it’s surprisingly quiet for a 5.5 HP motor. The included muffler cuts down on the roar, so you won’t need hearing protection in most cases, though it’s still a shop vac, not silent.
Does it come with a HEPA filter?+
It ships with a standard cartridge filter. DEWALT sells HEPA filters separately, and adding one with the paper bag catches much finer dust, a must if you work around drywall or concrete.
Can it handle pet hair on carpet?+
The suction easily pulls embedded hair from short and medium-pile carpet. Without a motorized brush roll, it won’t groom high-pile rugs like a dedicated upright, but it clears surface hair in one pass.
How long is the reach with the cord and hose?+
The 20-foot cord plus the 7-foot hose gives you about 27 feet of working radius, which covers most two-car garages without moving the plug.
Is it too bulky for small wet spills indoors?+
The 12-gallon tank and stiff hose make it overkill for a quick kitchen spill. For that, a smaller 4- or 6-gallon vac is handier, but this one excels at larger flooding or workshop messes.
